    Police Officer Sentenced for Unauthorized Data Access

    Temporary Sergeant Daniel Hughes, 40, of Merseyside Police, was sentenced to 12 months suspended prison for unauthorized access to police data. Despite being injured on duty, he socialized with EncroChat criminals and accessed sensitive information without consent. Hughes was acquitted of some charges but lost his job and pension after a misconduct hearing. He received community service and a fine.
