    Gallery unveils early painting of black individual

    The National Portrait Gallery has revealed a rare painting believed to be one of the earliest depictions of a black individual in English art. The artwork features two teenage boys, one of African heritage and one Caucasian. It will be on loan until March 2028, aiming to engage visitors and challenge historical perceptions of African presence in Europe.
