    Calls to Legislate Against Spiking Intensify

    MEP Regina Doherty has urged Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan to advance legislation that specifically criminalizes spiking. Current laws are outdated and rarely used for prosecution. Allegations of spiking have surged, with 339 incidents reported from January 2021 to December 2022. A proposed bill has stalled in the Dáil despite passing the Seanad in 2023.
